Glasgow Credit Union and Homes for Good launch pioneering partnership to create affordable homes in Greater Glasgow through landmark £2.4m loan agreement.

Glasgow Credit Union and Homes for Good are embarking on a new, significant partnership, which will boost housing supply in Greater Glasgow for families on lower incomes in housing need.

This partnership started in 2023 when Homes for Good, a social business dedicated to creating homes for people who need them, purchased and transformed a long-term empty property from Glasgow Credit Union, successfully transforming it into a beautiful affordable home. Building on this success, we will now provide Homes for Good West Limited with an initial £2.4m Corporate Loan, enabling the business to acquire, refurbish, and transform up to 40 properties to create much needed homes for people with the greatest housing need.  This first large-scale initiative between Homes for Good and Glasgow Credit Union will generate significant and long-term social impact, offering high quality, secure and affordable homes and creating employment for local contractors.

The alignment of both organisation’s purpose, values and ethos underlines their commitment to improving people’s lives in the communities of Glasgow and beyond. Homes for Good and Glasgow Credit Union see this initiative as a first step in what will develop into an ambitious and long-term partnership.

Homes for Good’s Founder, Susan Aktemel, said, “We have been working with Glasgow Credit Union for some time to explore our common ambitions to improve people’s lives through provision of high-quality housing, and we are absolutely thrilled to launch our collaboration with this first loan. Together, we are on a mission to transform not just properties but the lives of families and individuals, offering them a foundation for a brighter future.”

Our Chief Executive Officer, David Ross, echoed these sentiments, stating, “We believe in the power of community-driven initiatives, which underlines our ethos as a local, trusted credit union. Teaming up with Homes for Good allows us to amplify our impact and contribute to the wellbeing of members within our community. This is just the beginning, and we can anticipate announcing even more positive outcomes from our collaboration.”
